all things lost…

I have a list.

First I called it my loves, then it was my likes, but now, I think it’s mostly just rubbish.

It’s a list of the things that I’ve come to love, or maybe just enjoy, in the world. Some of them are mundane…some less so. Some are true…some seem like lies. Some are downright weird…most are nerdy. Some may be sinful…some truly are blessings. But all, all, have the potential to become idols. I want to be freed from idolatry.

It’s not that I renounce all earthly delights…but compared to Christ, they are nothing.

…they are lost.

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.
